First of all, welcome to our wiki. We appreciate your interest.

Please consider a few things before editing the wiki.

Contents

Did you plagiarize the information?

This may seem like a fairly harsh question, but if you borrowed a graphic from the internet in your "sig" or copied a document into a page here, you may have committed plagiarism.

If you like some information on Wikipedia, just link to that information, rather than copying and pasting it.

Also, don't just copy and paste things from the main Addergoole website. Lyn and her contributers put a lot of work into that stuff. Please paraphrase things from the main page, or quote it with references.

but what can I do as a lowly user?

As described below, just edit! The beauty of a wiki is that one can change and re change anything over and over again. But it can help to have somewhere to start. Here is a list of things that we want here on the wiki.

Does the information or file benefit this group?

Did you write a paragraph about how it would be so cool if you were a character in the story and then make a page all about your "fanfic"? Well, ask permission first. Conversely, if you post it to your namespace, that should be fine. Those sorts of things are quite welcome over at the Forum and will be received with the high praise they deserve. Posting them here could potentially confuse people.

Did you use proper English and Wikicode?

Proper English isn't quite as necessary, but is pleasant for everyone who will inevitably be reading your contributions before someone catches the error and fixes it. Consider the fact that though you may be able to speak in 12 languages, the majority of our user base only reads one. You wouldn't want to waste your time on something that doesn't really have an audience, right?

Wikicode is easy to learn. Just Look Here!

Did you appropriately sign your comment on a Talk page?

Talk pages can be found at the "Discuss this page" link near the bottom of most pages.

This is a simple process. Three tildes (~~~) will post your name. Four tildes (~~~~) will put your name and timestamp. Five will just put a timestamp. This only really matters when folks want to know who said what in a conversation, and you should always get credit for your hard work and valid opinions.

On the opposite hand, don't have conversations on actual pages. Only on Talk pages.

Honestly, though: Just start editing!

You can't break things too badly. Not so badly that the admins can't fix it. Just edit stuff and learn and contribute. It can be a lot of fun, even though it can also be a lot of work.
