Announcement: What’s Next?

September 25, 2013 by Lyn

Between today and two Wednesdays from now, I will be posting the Addergoole finale, the last bonus story I owe you, the last commissioned piece I still owe, and a guest fiction or four.  By early October, Addergoole: Year 9 will be complete.

What’s next?

After listening to your feedback and taking stock of time, this is what I’m going to do –

I’m going to start posting Mystery of the Missing Orders in early November.  I’m going with this first for two reasons: One, it’s already written, and two, it won the last poll I posted, before Camp Nano

In November, speaking of Nano, I’m going to rewrite the first two books of Addergoole: the Original Series.  Look for a Kickstarter around Christmastime.

About 3 months after I start posting Missing Orders (but up to 5 months, depending on time constraints), I will start posting a non-Addergoole (gasp) series.

This has consistently just missed being the winner, the last three time I’ve posted polls, and I think it will be a nice change of pace for those frustrated with the darkness of Addergoole.  Its working title is Steam!Reiassan, and it’s set in the future of my current work-in-progress fantasy novel.  @inventrix has already done design work for the school uniforms.

(I have a thing for school stories, what can I say?)

After that remains up for grabs, but it will probably be Addergoole Year 10.

But while I’m talking about the future, I have to take a moment to talk about money.

Addergoole runs on donations; I don’t make enough in ad revenue to pay for ads on other sites, much less to  pay for art, web space, or my time.  And in the last year, the level of donations has been consistently low.

I can’t afford to continue to write 4500 words/week-plus for less than $10/week average.  I love you guys, but it’s a giant time commitment.

What to do about it?  I’m not entirely sure yet.

Mystery of the Missing Orders will post at 1000 words/week, with a donation incentive level to get the remaining 3000 words of the chapter.  This means the serial could be done in a 1/4 year – or take over a year.  What I do with Steam!Reiassan is still even more up in the air.

Whatever I do, I will keep posting something.  I do enjoy your feedback and enthusiasm.

  1. Wysteria says:

Year 9 has never really caught me the way Addergoole TOS did, which might be why it never pushed me over that ‘do everything I can to get more story’ line. I bought side stories for TOS and did a bit of publicity via leaving reviews for it because there were incentives for reviews. We’ve talked about the format, and I think it was that format, not the characters or the writing. At least for me.

  2. Lyn says:

@Wyst – I do think that’s a large part of the problem. Ah, well, it was an interesting experiment.

  3. Inventrix says:

Have you looked into that, ah… what was it called… that thing, where you ask for money in exchange for posting content.

I think Becka was looking into it, maybe?

  4. giom says:

Same here, while I still like the universe, I was much less engrossed in year 9 compared to Addergoole TOS. I think it’s mostly that I felt much closer to the original characters (except Conrad which I really didn’t like much… ). This time, it touched too many characters and I didn’t have as much connection to them… The writing is great though 🙂

I’m really looking forward to reading what you come up with next

  5. Kuro_Neko says:

Just a quick check, you’ve only posted one of the three I commissioned right? The one with Ceinwen? Or did I miss the posting of one?
